Glenville 2006
Iowa

by David Baugh

As a sophomore in 2003, quarterback Arvell Nelson was a backup on the Cleveland Glenville junior varsity team.  In 2004, he was starting varsity for a 12-2 Tarblooder squad that made it all the way to the state semi finals. That goes to show you how hard Nelson worked to get to his level of play, a level that attracted the attention of many others beyond the stands.  With a plethora of wide receivers at his disposal, Nelson showed the skills & awareness that colleges love.  At 6'4, 171, his size was not an issue, but a plus.  In 2005, he followed up his breakthrough junior season by leading the Tarblooders to their first ever 10-0 regular season.  These days, many Glenville players are taking their skills to higher levels, and Nelson is no exception as he accepted a scholarship Iowa, a school that has enjoyed much success this decade.  I don't have a timetable as to when he gets on the field, but I think that it's safe to say that we haven't seen the last of Arvell Nelson.
